The Doubloon

"Shall I call it wise or foolish, now; if it really be wise it has a foolish look to it; yet, if it be really foolish, then it has a sort of wiseish look to it."

[Herman Melville]

Forty years ago there was no alternative to the dollar. World dollar reserves just a few weeks ago were only sixty-six percent of world reserves, with the Euro being most of the rest. If you are selling cod liver oil, would you rather have Euros or dollars, when the Euro appreciates while the dollar declines? What this means, and which most people cannot understand, is that now that there is a choice, cod liver oil is in effect the real world reserve currency. Since Canada is long on bacalao, the Loon appreciates. Simple stuff. And remember cod liver oil is dual use--don't use it all on one inflatable doll....
